Stargazing over the dark canyon at Jebel Shams Resort

On the mountain

The Oman Grand Canyon (Wadi Ghul) viewpoint at Wadi An Nakhar is steps from the resort, with sheer drops of more than a thousand metres. The Balcony Walk (W6) trail starts nearby and follows the rim. For current trail conditions and guidance, ask the resort team before you head out.

After dark

The high altitude means almost no light pollution, so the night sky is exceptional for stargazing. Gather around the campfire area after dinner, or take a seat on your terrace — the Private Chalet has its own enclosed patio with a private fire pit. The restaurant serves breakfast 7:00–9:00 AM, lunch 12:00–3:00 PM and dinner 7:00–9:00 PM.

Around the resort

Closer to home, the resort has an outdoor swimming pool, a canyon-view restaurant and a coffee shop and lounge, set among an olive grove and gardens with free parking. The old mudbrick town of Al Hamra is 37 km away for a half-day outing. Choose from four room types — Sunset Chalet, Private Chalet, Twin Room with Mountain View and Mountain Lodge — and see FAQ for more.
